This workshop is created to connect with personal experiences, process them and use creativity in order to promote personal development.
Type of activity: Workshop on Dance
Setting: A dance studio or any place that can allow people to dance (make sure the space is safe and warm enough).
Skills related: (indicate the skills which will be trained in this exercise. You can indicate more than one skill.)
This workshop combines physical and cognitive skills, promoting personal and interpersonal growth in various areas:
The participants are encouraged by the facilitator to write down both familiar dance steps from their previous experiences and to brainstorm new steps that they believe would enrich the dance vocabulary (approximately 5 minutes).
Once they are prepared, they should write all the dance steps into a comprehensive list and underlie the new ones.
Participants are encouraged to review the list and experiment with the movements associated with select dance steps (approximately 10 minutes)
The facilitator invites participants to find a spot within the room where they feel safe, assume a comfortable posture, and close their eyes. During this time, they are requested to think about two distinct life events: one that evoked a positive feeling and another that brought about negative feeling. Participants are asked to visualise the corresponding bodily sensations linked to these two different experiences.
They are invited to pair up and talk to their partner about their experience and show the body steps they have identified (about 5 minutes).
At this point, the facilitator divides the participants into groups of 4 individuals and asks them to tell a story through dance movements. The vocabulary for this choreography should be derived from the list they have created, incorporating a balance of dance steps they already know and new ones (approximately 30 minutes)
When ready, they should show their story.
Optional for facilitators for piloting: if you have some suggestions for delivery of the activity, list them here.
For the creative moments, alternate uplifting music with quiet music and let participants choose their own music when they share their choreography;
